Fintech Recruiters in Boston

Boston fintech recruiters

Your Boston fintech recruitment specialists

Nexus IT Group recruits fintech professionals for Boston employers: payment systems and financial software engineers, quantitative developers, fraud and compliance engineers, data and platform engineers along with the CTOs and heads of engineering who run regulated products. We place contract, contract-to-hire and permanent staff across the sectors that make Boston an asset management and wealth technology market before anything else, from State Street at One Congress Street and Wellington Management at Atlantic Wharf to MFS on Huntington Avenue in the Back Bay, Putnam Investments on Federal Street and Fidelity Investments on Summer Street.

Our Boston candidate network has been built over years of searches for asset managers, custodians, payment companies and banks across the metro, out through Cambridge and Waltham to the insurance and lending platforms beyond. Every search runs outbound to passive engineers, with three calls before you see anyone and a shortlist within 4 days, the same fintech recruiting process we run for clients nationwide. Candidates are screened on the custody, payment or lending systems they have actually shipped, so the first interview is about fit rather than verification.

What shapes a Boston fintech search right now

Stablecoin licensing lands in January

Treasury opened a rulemaking on 17 August 2026 implementing section 3 of the GENIUS Act with a 60 day comment window, the licensing requirements take effect on 18 January 2027 and the restriction on offering unlicensed payment stablecoins follows on 18 July 2028. Fidelity Digital Assets already lists custody, execution and the Fidelity Digital Dollar among the services it runs from 245 Summer Street. Custody, settlement, security and compliance engineering roles in Boston are being staffed against those dates now.

Big tech pay sets the ceiling

The median Boston software engineer reports $179,300 in total compensation, with the 25th percentile at $130,000 and the 75th at $240,000, while Meta averages $391,000, Google $300,000 and Datadog $298,750. A quantitative developer here has a median package of $214,000 and a quantitative researcher $270,000. An asset manager or payment platform hiring a senior engineer is bidding against that, so the brief has to lead with scope and product ownership.

State Street is working through an installation backlog

State Street reported record assets under custody and administration of $57.9 trillion on 16 July 2026, along with $2.9 trillion of client assets still to be installed in future periods and software services recurring revenue up roughly 14% on SaaS implementations and conversions. The same quarter added a tokenized fund servicing capability in Luxembourg. Conversion, data and platform engineering work at One Congress Street runs to client installation dates, and much of it is scoped as contract.

Attendance rules split the candidate pool

State Street lists an onsite workplace with a typical five days a week on site, while Toast and BlueSnap run hybrid models and Flywire is remote first with no requirement to come in at all. Openly keeps a Boston headquarters and a remote workforce of 350. A search has to be scoped to the employer's own attendance rule, because those candidate pools barely overlap.

SERVICES

Four ways to staff a Boston fintech team from a retained CTO search to contract build capacity

Executive Search (Retained)

We run retained searches for fintech leadership in Boston, including CTO, VP of Engineering, Head of Platform and the risk and compliance technology leaders that regulated products require. Investors frequently sit in on these processes, whether the company is a payment platform in the Seaport or a wealth technology business in the Financial District, so the shortlist has to survive a board conversation as well as a technical one. Our retained placements hold a 96% candidate retention rate.

Direct Hire

Fintech engineers in Boston are courted heavily and rarely answer adverts, so our recruiters work outbound into custody, asset management, payments and core banking depending on what the role actually touches. We deliver a vetted shortlist within 4 days of taking the requirement. One New York asset manager with $5.6BN under management had us screen 287 candidates and submit six inside two weeks, with the hire starting five weeks after kickoff.

Contract Staffing

Regulatory deadlines, migrations and client installations arrive with dates attached and often need capacity rather than headcount, as the $2.9 trillion of assets State Street still had to install at the end of June 2026 shows. We serve as both the recruiter and the W2 employer for the contract term, which keeps co-employment risk off your side and gives you a clean way to convert the engineer if the work becomes permanent. Our contract placements hold a 94.3% quality of hire ratio.

Recruitment as a Service

A Boston fintech scaling after a funding round is usually hiring across engineering, data and product at the same time, which is where per-placement fees stop making sense. Our Recruitment as a Service subscription handles candidate marketing, sourcing, screening and delivery for the whole plan, leaving your Boston engineers the technical assessment. We generate an engaged pipeline for a named fintech role in under 7 days.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about fintech recruiting in Boston

It starts with a discovery call to define the role, the stack, the regulatory context and the onsite expectation. From there our recruiters run an outbound campaign to passive engineers in the Boston market and hold three calls with each candidate before you see them, then deliver a shortlist of two or three. We stay in touch with every placed candidate for two years, and we travel for retained leadership searches.

Mostly the asset managers and custodians in the Financial District and the Back Bay, the payment and commerce platforms, the bank technology and digital asset teams and the insurance and lending marketplaces in Boston and Cambridge. Those are the employers running platforms large enough to need specialist engineers, which is where an outside recruiter earns its fee. We also take searches from smaller Boston fintechs hiring their first payments or compliance engineer.

It depends on the role and on how far the compensation sits from the market. A payments engineer or data engineer search typically produces a shortlist within a week, while a quantitative developer or CTO search takes longer. Current Boston salary bands are a reasonable first check on whether a budget is in range, and where we have an active pipeline we can deliver candidates the day the contract is signed.

Both, and the mix follows the work. Contract and contract-to-hire is common for client installations, platform migrations and regulatory remediation at Boston custodians, asset managers and banks, while permanent placement and retained search cover the standing engineering and product teams. We are the W2 employer for the length of any contract, so the engineer can be converted later if the work proves ongoing.

Ask how many fintech roles they filled in the last twelve months and what their twelve-month retention is, then ask whether the recruiter on your search has placed the same role before. Our own figures are 96% of placed candidates still employed after twelve months and a 92% offer acceptance rate. A recruiter who cannot answer those questions for Boston specifically is guessing at the market.
