Fintech Recruiters in Denver

Denver fintech recruiters

Your Denver fintech recruitment specialists

Nexus IT Group recruits fintech professionals for Denver employers: payment systems and financial software engineers, compliance and risk engineers, fraud and platform engineers along with the CTOs and heads of engineering who run regulated products. We place contract, contract-to-hire and permanent staff across the sectors that make Denver a distinct fintech market, from Western Union's global payments headquarters on the Belleview corridor to Janus Henderson in Cherry Creek, Charles Schwab's campus in Lone Tree and the banking, insurance and mortgage technology companies spread across downtown Denver and the Denver Tech Center.

Our Denver candidate network has been built over years of searches for payments companies, banks, insurers and wealth managers across the metro. Every search runs outbound to passive engineers, with three calls before you see anyone and a shortlist within 4 days, the same fintech recruiting process we run for clients nationwide. Candidates are screened on the payment, banking or insurance systems they have actually shipped, so the first interview is about fit rather than verification.

Hiring fintech talent in Denver?

The Denver market

Where Denver hires fintech talent

Four sectors carry most of the demand, and wealth management and retirement technology dominates the others, because the asset managers and retirement recordkeepers headquartered here run larger engineering organisations than the banks and insurers around them.

Wealth management, retirement and asset servicing

Janus Henderson employs more than 2,800 people at its Denver office on Detroit Street, in a sector that also runs Charles Schwab's campus in Lone Tree and Empower's headquarters in Greenwood Village.

  • Empower
  • TIAA

Banking

Wells Fargo and Zions Bancorporation's Vectra Bank Colorado brand run consumer and commercial banking technology out of Denver, alongside Canvas Credit Union, which employs more than 500 people across the metro.

Payments and consumer fintech

Western Union runs its global payments network from its Denver headquarters at 7001 East Belleview Avenue, where CSG's billing and payments software business is also based.

Insurance technology and lending platforms

What shapes a Denver fintech search right now

Stablecoin licensing lands in January

Treasury opened a rulemaking on 17 August 2026 implementing section 3 of the GENIUS Act, and the licence required to issue a payment stablecoin in the United States takes effect on 18 January 2027, with the restriction on offering unlicensed stablecoins following on 18 July 2028. Western Union's first quarter 2026 earnings release named a stablecoin launch as part of modernizing its payment systems, work that runs out of its Denver headquarters. Compliance, payments and platform engineering roles tied to that launch are being staffed against the January deadline now.

Big tech pay sets the ceiling

The median Denver software engineer reports $160,000 in total compensation, with the 25th percentile at $122,500 and the 75th at $201,000, while Google averages $309,000, Amazon $238,000 and Workday $206,000. A compliance officer here has a median package of $137,400 and a market risk analyst $122,100. A bank, insurer or payments company hiring a senior engineer is bidding against the tech figures, so the brief has to lead with scope and product ownership.

The Intermex acquisition is waiting on California

Western Union and Intermex announced on 14 August 2026 that New York's Department of Financial Services had approved the pending acquisition, the same week California's Department of Financial Protection and Innovation suspended the approval extension it had granted in July, citing a need to further review the deal. Both companies say they intend to close promptly once that approval is reinstated. Integration, compliance and platform engineering work tied to the deal stays open in Denver until the review clears.

Attendance rules split the candidate pool

Western Union, Wells Fargo and TIAA all set a typical three days a week on site in their Colorado offices, while Janus Henderson and Charles Schwab keep employees working from physical offices and Vertafore, Pinnacol Assurance and Ibotta run flexible arrangements instead. Those three patterns rarely draw from the same candidate pool. A search has to be scoped to the employer's own attendance rule before an offer gets made.

SERVICES

Four ways to staff a Denver fintech team from a retained CTO search to contract build capacity

Executive Search (Retained)

We run retained searches for fintech leadership in Denver, including CTO, VP of Engineering, Head of Platform and the risk and compliance technology leaders that regulated products require. Investors frequently sit in on these processes, whether the company is a payments business on the Belleview corridor or a wealth technology employer in Cherry Creek, so the shortlist has to survive a board conversation as well as a technical one. Our retained placements hold a 96% candidate retention rate.

Direct Hire

Fintech engineers in Denver are courted heavily and rarely answer adverts, so our recruiters work outbound into payments, banking, wealth management and insurance depending on what the role actually touches. We deliver a vetted shortlist within 4 days of taking the requirement. One New York asset manager with $5.6BN under management had us screen 287 candidates and submit six inside two weeks, with the hire starting five weeks after kickoff.

Contract Staffing

Regulatory deadlines, acquisitions and product launches arrive with dates attached and often need capacity rather than headcount, as Western Union's stablecoin launch and its pending Intermex acquisition both show. We serve as both the recruiter and the W2 employer for the contract term, which keeps co-employment risk off your side and gives you a clean way to convert the engineer if the work becomes permanent. Our contract placements hold a 94.3% quality of hire ratio.

Recruitment as a Service

A Denver fintech scaling after a funding round is usually hiring across engineering, data and product at the same time, which is where per-placement fees stop making sense. Our Recruitment as a Service subscription handles candidate marketing, sourcing, screening and delivery for the whole plan, leaving your Denver engineers the technical assessment. We generate an engaged pipeline for a named fintech role in under 7 days.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about fintech recruiting in Denver

It starts with a discovery call to define the role, the stack, the regulatory context and the onsite expectation. From there our recruiters run an outbound campaign to passive engineers in the Denver market and hold three calls with each candidate before you see them, then deliver a shortlist of two or three. We stay in touch with every placed candidate for two years, and we travel for retained leadership searches.

Mostly the payments and consumer fintech companies on the Belleview corridor and downtown, the wealth management and retirement technology employers in Cherry Creek and Lone Tree, the banks and credit unions across the metro and the insurance technology and mortgage platforms building here. Those are the employers running platforms large enough to need specialist engineers, which is where an outside recruiter earns its fee. We also take searches from smaller Denver fintechs hiring their first payments or compliance engineer.

It depends on the role and on how far the compensation sits from the market. A payments engineer or compliance engineer search typically produces a shortlist within a week, while a CTO or platform architect search takes longer. Current Denver salary bands are a reasonable first check on whether a budget is in range, and where we have an active pipeline we can deliver candidates the day the contract is signed.

Both, and the mix follows the work. Contract and contract-to-hire is common for acquisition integrations, product launches and regulatory remediation at Denver's banks, payments companies and insurers, while permanent placement and retained search cover the standing engineering and product teams. We are the W2 employer for the length of any contract, so the engineer can be converted later if the work proves ongoing.

Ask how many fintech roles they filled in the last twelve months and what their twelve-month retention is, then ask whether the recruiter on your search has placed the same role before. Our own figures are 96% of placed candidates still employed after twelve months and a 92% offer acceptance rate. A recruiter who cannot answer those questions for Denver specifically is guessing at the market.
