Fintech Recruiters in Kansas City

Kansas City fintech recruiters

Your Kansas City fintech recruitment specialists

Nexus IT Group recruits fintech professionals for Kansas City employers: banking and payment systems engineers, quantitative and data analysts, fraud and compliance engineers, along with the CTOs and heads of engineering who run regulated financial products. We place contract, contract-to-hire and permanent staff across the sectors that make Kansas City a banking, payments and asset management market in its own right, from UMB Financial on Grand Boulevard and Commerce Bancshares on Walnut Street downtown to the payments and fintech companies clustered in Leawood and Overland Park.

Our Kansas City candidate network has been built over years of searches for banks, payment companies, asset managers and fintech startups across the metro, from the Country Club Plaza to the River Market and out through Johnson County. Every search runs outbound to passive engineers, with three calls before you see anyone and a shortlist within 4 days, the same fintech recruiting process we run for clients nationwide. Candidates are screened on the banking, payments or risk systems they have actually shipped, so the first interview is about fit rather than verification.

What shapes a Kansas City fintech search right now

Stablecoin licensing lands in January

Treasury opened a rulemaking on 17 August 2026 to implement section 3 of the GENIUS Act, with the stablecoin licensing requirement taking effect on 18 January 2027 and the ban on offering unlicensed payment stablecoins following on 18 July 2028. Euronet Worldwide, the Leawood-based cross-border payments company that reported $1,108.4 million in second quarter 2026 revenue, names digital asset regulation among the risks in its own securities filings. Compliance, risk and payments engineering roles at Leawood's payments companies are being staffed against that licensing calendar now.

Pay spreads wide across the same title

The median Kansas City software engineer reports $140,000 in total compensation, with the 25th percentile at $90,400 and the 75th at $176,000, a spread wide enough that two candidates with the same title can sit $85,000 apart. Robert Half puts an AI and machine learning engineer here between $138,700 and $200,000 and a data scientist between $126,000 and $188,900. A brief priced off the bottom of that spread loses the strongest fintech engineers to a national remote offer, so pay has to be set against the role rather than the metro average.

UMB is folding in a record-sized acquisition

UMB Financial reported record second quarter 2026 results on 28 July 2026, with net income available to common shareholders of $271.8 million and average total assets of $70.4 billion, up from $66.9 billion a year earlier on the continuing impact of its acquisition of Heartland Financial USA, which closed on 31 January 2025. The combined bank is still folding Heartland's branches, systems and customers into UMB's own platform from its Grand Boulevard headquarters. Core banking, data and platform engineering roles tied to that integration are likely to stay open through the rest of 2026 and suit contract staffing well.

Fintech employers here draw from beyond the metro

C2FO, the Leawood-based working capital platform, lists no required on-site days for its roles, and PayIt, the Kansas City-based government payments company, advertises both remote and hybrid positions. Lead Bank runs its named banking locations from Kansas City and Lee's Summit while keeping additional offices in San Francisco, Sunnyvale and New York. A Kansas City fintech search should plan to source and interview candidates who work from outside the metro as often as those who live in it.

SERVICES

Four ways to staff a Kansas City fintech team from a retained CTO search to contract build capacity

Executive Search (Retained)

We run retained searches for fintech leadership in Kansas City, including CTO, VP of Engineering, Head of Platform and the risk and compliance technology leaders that regulated products require. Investors frequently sit in on these processes, whether the company is a bank downtown or an asset manager in Leawood, so the shortlist has to survive a board conversation as well as a technical one. Our retained placements hold a 96% candidate retention rate.

Direct Hire

Fintech engineers in Kansas City are courted heavily and rarely answer adverts, so our recruiters work outbound into banking, payments, investment management and government fintech depending on what the role actually touches. We deliver a vetted shortlist within 4 days of taking the requirement. One New York asset manager with $5.6BN under management had us screen 287 candidates and submit six inside two weeks, with the hire starting five weeks after kickoff.

Contract Staffing

Regulatory deadlines, migrations and integrations arrive with dates attached and often need capacity rather than headcount, as UMB Financial's integration of Heartland Financial USA shows. We serve as both the recruiter and the W2 employer for the contract term, which keeps co-employment risk off your side and gives you a clean way to convert the engineer if the work becomes permanent. Our contract placements hold a 94.3% quality of hire ratio.

Recruitment as a Service

A Kansas City fintech scaling after a funding round is usually hiring across engineering, data and product at the same time, which is where per-placement fees stop making sense. Our Recruitment as a Service subscription handles candidate marketing, sourcing, screening and delivery for the whole plan, leaving your Kansas City engineers the technical assessment. We generate an engaged pipeline for a named fintech role in under 7 days.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about fintech recruiting in Kansas City

It starts with a discovery call to define the role, the stack, the regulatory context and the onsite expectation. From there our recruiters run an outbound campaign to passive engineers in the Kansas City market and hold three calls with each candidate before you see them, then deliver a shortlist of two or three. We stay in touch with every placed candidate for two years, and we travel for retained leadership searches.

Mostly the banks and asset managers headquartered downtown and in Leawood and Overland Park, the payments and government fintech companies and the digital banking and banking-as-a-service platforms built to serve customers nationwide rather than through branches. Those are the employers running platforms large enough to need specialist engineers, which is where an outside recruiter earns its fee. We also take searches from smaller Kansas City fintechs hiring their first payments or compliance engineer.

It depends on the role and on how far the compensation sits from the market. A payments engineer or data engineer search typically produces a shortlist within a week, while a quantitative developer or CTO search takes longer. Current Kansas City salary bands are a reasonable first check on whether a budget is in range, and where we have an active pipeline we can deliver candidates the day the contract is signed.

Both, and the mix follows the work. Contract and contract-to-hire is common for platform migrations, regulatory remediation and integration projects at Kansas City's banks and payment companies, while permanent placement and retained search cover the standing engineering and product teams. We are the W2 employer for the length of any contract, so the engineer can be converted later if the work proves ongoing.

Ask how many fintech roles they filled in the last twelve months and what their twelve-month retention is, then ask whether the recruiter on your search has placed the same role before. Our own figures are 96% of placed candidates still employed after twelve months and a 92% offer acceptance rate. A recruiter who cannot answer those questions for Kansas City specifically is guessing at the market.
