Fintech Recruiters in Toronto

Toronto fintech recruiters

Your Toronto fintech recruitment specialists

Nexus IT Group recruits fintech professionals for Toronto employers: payment systems and financial software engineers, quantitative developers, fraud and compliance engineers, data and platform engineers along with the CTOs and heads of engineering who run regulated products. We place contract, contract-to-hire and permanent staff across the sectors that make Toronto Canada's banking capital, from the Big Five towers on Bay Street in the Financial District to the digital challengers, payment processors and pension managers built alongside them.

Our Toronto candidate network has been built over years of searches for banks, payment companies, digital brokerages and pension managers across the metro. Every search runs outbound to passive engineers, with three calls before you see anyone and a shortlist within 4 days, the same fintech recruiting process we run for clients nationwide. Candidates are screened on the payment, trading or lending systems they have actually shipped, so the first interview is about fit rather than verification.

The Toronto market

Where Toronto hires fintech talent

Four sectors carry most of the demand, and bank technology hubs dominate the others, because the Big Five run the largest engineering organisations in the metro.

Bank technology hubs

The Big Five run their technology organisations from towers on Bay Street, with CIBC's new 50-storey north tower at 141 Bay Street, completed in 2026, anchoring CIBC Square.

What shapes a Toronto fintech search right now

Bank of Canada enforcement goes public

The Bank of Canada announced on 12 June 2026 that it will begin publishing notices of violation against payment service providers registered under the Retail Payment Activities Act once their window to respond has passed, naming the provider and any administrative monetary penalty. Its retail payments regulatory news page shows two further 2026 actions already, a reporting-obligation reminder on 29 June and a compliance order against XTM Inc. on 27 February. Toronto-based providers like Interac, Moneris and Wealthsimple now hire against a public enforcement record, so compliance and risk engineering roles carry more weight in a search.

Big tech pay sets the ceiling

The median Toronto software engineer reports $146,900 in total compensation, with the 25th percentile at $108,800 and the 75th at $196,900, while Meta, the highest paying employer in the local sample, averages $407,868. A machine learning engineer here has a median package of $152,300 and a quantitative developer $101,300. A bank or digital challenger hiring a senior engineer is bidding against that ceiling, so the brief has to lead with scope and product ownership.

CIBC Square finishes its second tower

CIBC Square's 50-storey north tower at 141 Bay Street was completed in 2026, with CIBC as anchor tenant across the roughly 3,000,000 square foot complex it shares with its 2021-completed south tower. CPP Investments already keeps its own Toronto office in the same tower at Suite 3100. Consolidating a bank's technology staff into one campus tends to open platform, data and security engineering roles as teams are rebuilt around the new floors.

Onsite rules split by bank

RBC and CIBC both list their Toronto offices as full onsite workspaces on Built In Toronto, while Scotiabank runs a hybrid workspace across the same city. A search has to be scoped to the employer's own attendance rule, because a candidate weighing an RBC offer against a Scotiabank one is also weighing a different week.

SERVICES

Four ways to staff a Toronto fintech team from a retained CTO search to contract build capacity

Executive Search (Retained)

We run retained searches for fintech leadership in Toronto, including CTO, VP of Engineering, Head of Platform and the risk and compliance technology leaders that regulated products require. Investors frequently sit in on these processes, whether the company is a payment processor near the Financial District or a digital brokerage further along Bay Street, so the shortlist has to survive a board conversation as well as a technical one. Our retained placements hold a 96% candidate retention rate.

Direct Hire

Fintech engineers in Toronto are courted heavily and rarely answer adverts, so our recruiters work outbound into banking, payments, wealth technology and pension systems depending on what the role actually touches. We deliver a vetted shortlist within 4 days of taking the requirement. One New York asset manager with $5.6BN under management had us screen 287 candidates and submit six inside two weeks, with the hire starting five weeks after kickoff.

Contract Staffing

Regulatory deadlines, migrations and new campus builds arrive with dates attached and often need capacity rather than headcount, as CIBC's move into its newly completed north tower shows. We serve as both the recruiter and the employer of record for the contract term, which keeps co-employment risk off your side and gives you a clean way to convert the engineer if the work becomes permanent. Our contract placements hold a 94.3% quality of hire ratio.

Recruitment as a Service

A Toronto fintech scaling after a funding round is usually hiring across engineering, data and product at the same time, which is where per-placement fees stop making sense. Our Recruitment as a Service subscription handles candidate marketing, sourcing, screening and delivery for the whole plan, leaving your Toronto engineers the technical assessment. We generate an engaged pipeline for a named fintech role in under 7 days.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about fintech recruiting in Toronto

It starts with a discovery call to define the role, the stack, the regulatory context and the onsite expectation. From there our recruiters run an outbound campaign to passive engineers in the Toronto market and hold three calls with each candidate before you see them, then deliver a shortlist of two or three. We stay in touch with every placed candidate for two years, and we travel for retained leadership searches.

Mostly the Big Five banks and their technology hubs on Bay Street, the digital banks and brokerages built in the city, the payment processors and market infrastructure operators and the pension managers running engineering teams the size of a bank's. Those are the employers running platforms large enough to need specialist engineers, which is where an outside recruiter earns its fee. We also take searches from smaller Toronto fintechs hiring their first payments or compliance engineer.

It depends on the role and on how far the compensation sits from the market. A payments engineer or data engineer search typically produces a shortlist within a week, while a machine learning engineer or CTO search takes longer. Current Toronto salary bands are a reasonable first check on whether a budget is in range, and where we have an active pipeline we can deliver candidates the day the contract is signed.

Both, and the mix follows the work. Contract and contract-to-hire is common for platform migrations, regulatory remediation and campus consolidations at Toronto's banks and payment companies, while permanent placement and retained search cover the standing engineering and product teams. We are the employer of record for the length of any contract, so the engineer can be converted later if the work proves ongoing.

Ask how many fintech roles they filled in the last twelve months and what their twelve-month retention is, then ask whether the recruiter on your search has placed the same role before. Our own figures are 96% of placed candidates still employed after twelve months and a 92% offer acceptance rate. A recruiter who cannot answer those questions for Toronto specifically is guessing at the market.
