Fintech Recruiters in Vancouver

Vancouver fintech recruiters

Your Vancouver fintech recruitment specialists

Nexus IT Group recruits fintech professionals for Vancouver employers: identity verification and payments engineers, compliance and risk technology specialists, blockchain and data engineers along with the CTOs and heads of engineering who run regulated products. We place contract, contract-to-hire and permanent staff across the sectors that make Vancouver a credit union, identity verification and capital markets market before anything else, from Central 1 Credit Union and Vancity's cooperative finance operations to Trulioo, FISPAN and Global Relay's compliance technology offices around West Hastings Street and Canaccord Genuity's capital markets desk downtown.

Our Vancouver candidate network has been built over years of searches for credit unions, identity verification vendors, capital markets firms and payment technology companies across the metro, out through Surrey and into the wider Lower Mainland. Every search runs outbound to passive engineers, with three calls before you see anyone and a shortlist within 4 days, the same fintech recruiting process we run for clients nationwide. Candidates are screened on the compliance, payments or capital markets systems they have actually shipped, so the first interview is about fit rather than verification.

All figures are in Canadian dollars, for the Vancouver metro in 2026. The Levels.fyi rows are self-reported total compensation including bonus and equity, shown as the 25th percentile, median and 75th percentile; the Robert Half rows are 2026 Salary Guide starting salary bands by experience level, shown as the band for a candidate new to the role, one with moderate experience and one with extensive experience. Treat these as ranges, not a benchmark to offer against.

What shapes a Vancouver fintech search right now

Payment provider enforcement just went public

The Bank of Canada announced on 12 June 2026 that it will begin publishing notices of violation against payment service providers registered under the Retail Payment Activities Act, on top of the risk management and funds safeguarding frameworks those providers were already required to hold as of 8 September 2025. The BC Financial Services Authority and the BC Securities Commission license and supervise the credit unions, lenders and dealers layered on top of that federal registration. A Vancouver payments or lending platform now answers to two regulators at once, so a compliance engineering hire increasingly means someone who has built controls for a live regulator rather than a policy binder.

Vancouver's own tech payroll sets the ceiling

The median Vancouver software engineer reports $169,100 (CAD) in total compensation on Levels.fyi, with the 25th percentile at $130,100 and the 75th at $214,100, and Workday, Arista Networks and Salesforce topping the list of local payers. A crypto engineer here carries a median package of $161,800 (CAD) and a machine learning engineer $218,000 (CAD). A credit union or capital markets firm hiring against those figures is competing with cloud and gaming employers already established in the city, so the brief has to lead with the mandate rather than the base salary.

Credit unions are staffing for the Real-Time Rail

Central 1 Credit Union, the Vancouver-headquartered services provider to British Columbia and Ontario credit unions, reported total assets of $8.9 billion (CAD) as at 30 June 2026 and is running its member institutions through readiness for Payments Canada's Real-Time Rail, which is set to launch through milestones across 2026 and 2027. That build touches ISO 20022 messaging, payment orchestration and fraud monitoring at every credit union in the network, not just at Central 1 itself. A Vancouver payments engineering search right now is as likely to sit inside a credit union's technology team as inside a fintech vendor.

Attendance splits along the same lines as ownership

FISPAN, Global Relay, Canaccord Genuity and Central 1 all list themselves as full on-site workplaces on Built In Vancouver, while Trulioo runs a hybrid model of two to three office days a week. Vancouver is not one of the ten cities the Kastle Back to Work Barometer tracks, so attendance here is a matter of asking each employer directly rather than reading a metro-wide badge swipe figure. A search has to confirm which model a role sits under before a Vancouver candidate takes the first call.

SERVICES

Four ways to staff a Vancouver fintech team from a retained CTO search to contract build capacity

Executive Search (Retained)

We run retained searches for fintech leadership in Vancouver, including CTO, VP of Engineering, Head of Platform and the risk and compliance technology leaders that regulated credit unions and payment platforms require. Investors and credit union boards frequently sit in on these processes, whether the company is an identity verification vendor near West Hastings Street or a capital markets firm downtown, so the shortlist has to survive a board conversation as well as a technical one. Our retained placements hold a 96% candidate retention rate.

Direct Hire

Fintech engineers in Vancouver are courted heavily and rarely answer adverts, so our recruiters work outbound into identity verification, compliance technology, capital markets and credit union teams depending on what the role actually touches. We deliver a vetted shortlist within 4 days of taking the requirement. One New York asset manager with $5.6BN under management had us screen 287 candidates and submit six inside two weeks, with the hire starting five weeks after kickoff.

Contract Staffing

Regulatory deadlines, migrations and member-institution rollouts arrive with dates attached and often need capacity rather than headcount, as the Real-Time Rail milestones landing across BC's credit unions through 2026 and 2027 show. We serve as both the recruiter and the employer of record for the contract term, which keeps co-employment risk off your side and gives you a clean way to convert the engineer if the work becomes permanent. Our contract placements hold a 94.3% quality of hire ratio.

Recruitment as a Service

A Vancouver fintech scaling after a funding round is usually hiring across engineering, data and product at the same time, which is where per-placement fees stop making sense. Our Recruitment as a Service subscription handles candidate marketing, sourcing, screening and delivery for the whole plan, leaving your Vancouver engineers the technical assessment. We generate an engaged pipeline for a named fintech role in under 7 days.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about fintech recruiting in Vancouver

It starts with a discovery call to define the role, the stack, the regulatory context and the onsite expectation. From there our recruiters run an outbound campaign to passive engineers in the Vancouver market and hold three calls with each candidate before you see them, then deliver a shortlist of two or three. We stay in touch with every placed candidate for two years, and we travel for retained leadership searches.

Mostly the credit unions and cooperative finance institutions, the identity verification and compliance technology vendors and the capital markets and digital finance firms headquartered downtown and around West Hastings Street. Those are the employers running platforms large enough to need specialist engineers, which is where an outside recruiter earns its fee. We also take searches from smaller Vancouver fintechs hiring their first compliance or payments engineer.

It depends on the role and on how far the compensation sits from the market. A compliance engineer or data engineer search typically produces a shortlist within a week, while a capital markets or CTO search takes longer. Current Vancouver salary bands, all in CAD, are a reasonable first check on whether a budget is in range, and where we have an active pipeline we can deliver candidates the day the contract is signed.

Both, and the mix follows the work. Contract and contract-to-hire is common for regulatory remediation, payment rail readiness and platform migrations at Vancouver credit unions and payments companies, while permanent placement and retained search cover the standing engineering and product teams. We are the employer of record for the length of any contract, so the engineer can be converted later if the work proves ongoing.

Ask how many fintech roles they filled in the last twelve months and what their twelve-month retention is, then ask whether the recruiter on your search has placed the same role before. Our own figures are 96% of placed candidates still employed after twelve months and a 92% offer acceptance rate. A recruiter who cannot answer those questions for Vancouver specifically is guessing at the market.
