Blockchain Infrastructure Engineer Job Description Template

The blockchain infrastructure engineer runs the nodes, RPC endpoints and supporting systems that keep a protocol or product connected to the chain. The work is operationally demanding: nodes are resource hungry, sync from scratch is slow, upgrades are coordinated across the network and downtime often means the product simply stops working.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Deploy and operate blockchain nodes across networks and clients
• Manage RPC infrastructure, load balancing and failover
• Monitor node health, sync status and resource consumption
• Coordinate and execute client upgrades and network hard forks
• Automate node provisioning, backup and recovery
• Optimize storage, pruning and archive node strategies
• Build observability for chain lag, peer connectivity and errors
• Manage validator infrastructure and key security where relevant
• Plan capacity against growth in chain size and request volume
• Respond to infrastructure incidents affecting chain connectivity

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 3+ years of infrastructure or site reliability work including blockchain nodes
• Strong Linux, networking and cloud infrastructure skills
• Experience with infrastructure as code and configuration management
• Understanding of node synchronisation, pruning and archive modes
• Experience through at least one network upgrade
• Solid monitoring and alerting practice
• Scripting in Python, Go or Bash
• Understanding of key security for validator operations

Preferred Qualifications

• Validator operations experience
• Familiarity with Kubernetes for node orchestration
