Rust Engineer (Solana, Polkadot, NEAR) Job Description Template

The Rust blockchain engineer builds on ecosystems where Rust is the primary language, including Solana, Polkadot and NEAR. Each has its own execution model and constraints, from Solana’s account model and compute budgets to Substrate’s runtime pallets, so genuine depth in the target chain matters as much as Rust proficiency itself.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop on chain programs or runtime modules in Rust
• Work within the account, storage and compute constraints of the target chain
• Write comprehensive tests including adversarial and edge cases
• Optimize for compute budget, storage cost and transaction size
• Build client libraries and integration tooling
• Prepare code for audit and remediate findings
• Deploy and verify programs across test and production networks
• Monitor on chain behavior and respond to issues
• Contribute to ecosystem open source projects
• Document program interfaces for integrators

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience

Required Skills and Experience

• 3+ years of Rust development including blockchain work
• Deep knowledge of at least one Rust based chain and its execution model
• Understanding of the security considerations specific to that chain
• Strong testing discipline including fuzzing where appropriate
• Familiarity with the relevant framework such as Anchor or Substrate
• Ability to optimize within tight compute or storage limits
• Experience with audit preparation
• Public repositories or deployed programs

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience across more than one Rust based ecosystem
• Contributions to core ecosystem tooling
