The smart contract developer builds the on chain logic behind a protocol or product, which may mean Solidity, Rust, Move or Cairo depending on the target chain. The role carries a level of consequence uncommon in software, since deployed contracts frequently cannot be changed and often custody significant value. The work therefore weights specification, review and testing far more heavily than typical application development.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and implement smart contracts for the protocol’s core functionality
• Specify contract behavior precisely before implementation begins
• Build extensive test suites including property based and fuzz testing
• Model economic and adversarial scenarios against the contract design
• Optimize for gas or compute cost appropriate to the target chain
• Coordinate audits and address findings thoroughly
• Manage deployment, verification and upgrade procedures
• Build the off chain services and indexers that support the contracts
• Monitor on chain activity for anomalies and respond to incidents
• Document contract interfaces for integrators and the wider team

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience

Required Skills and Experience

• 2+ years building smart contracts deployed to a production network
• Strong command of at least one contract language and its execution environment
• Deep knowledge of smart contract vulnerability classes
• Disciplined testing practice covering adversarial conditions
• Understanding of token standards and common protocol patterns
• Experience preparing for and responding to an audit
• Ability to reason about economic as well as technical exploits
• Verifiable on chain work or open source contributions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience on more than one chain or virtual machine
• Familiarity with formal verification tooling
