The vice president of blockchain runs the business unit, accountable for its products, its commercial results and its people. The role spans strategy, partnerships, risk and the relationship with the executive team, and it requires the ability to represent a technically complex and reputationally sensitive area credibly at board level.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Own the performance of the blockchain business unit
- Set strategy and allocate resources across teams and products
- Lead senior engineering, product and commercial leaders
- Own the budget and report results to the executive team
- Develop strategic partnerships and ecosystem positioning
- Oversee the risk framework covering security, custody and compliance
- Drive commercial outcomes and hold teams accountable for them
- Represent the unit to the board, investors and partners
- Hire and develop the leadership layer
- Decide which products to scale, sustain or discontinue
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field; MBA sometimes preferred
Required Skills and Experience
- 10+ years of experience including senior technology leadership
- Substantial blockchain sector experience with delivered outcomes
- Budget or profit and loss ownership
- Ability to lead senior leaders
- Deep understanding of custody, security and regulatory risk
- Credibility with boards and investors
- Clear commercial judgment
- Experience managing reputational risk
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in regulated financial services
- Prior executive role in the sector
