Salesforce Admin/Developer Job Description Template

The Salesforce administrator and developer configures and extends the platform to support an organization’s processes, combining declarative configuration with custom code where configuration alone is insufficient. The combined role is common outside very large Salesforce teams, and the discipline that matters most is knowing when to build and when the platform already does it.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Configure objects, fields, flows, permissions and page layouts
  • Develop Apex classes, triggers and Lightning Web Components where required
  • Manage user access, roles and sharing rules
  • Build reports and dashboards for business users
  • Integrate Salesforce with other systems through APIs and middleware
  • Manage deployments between sandbox and production environments
  • Maintain data quality including deduplication and validation rules
  • Support users and resolve issues
  • Manage release upgrades and assess their impact
  • Document configuration, customization and integration

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years administering and developing on Salesforce
  • Salesforce Administrator certification
  • Strong declarative configuration skills including Flow
  • Apex and Lightning Web Component development experience
  • Understanding of the platform’s governor limits and their implications
  • Experience with deployment tooling and change sets or source control
  • Data management and integration experience
  • Judgment about configuration versus custom code

Preferred Qualifications

  • Platform Developer I certification
  • Public sector Salesforce experience
