Cerner Consultant Job Description Template

The Cerner consultant implements, optimizes and supports Cerner Millennium and related solutions for healthcare clients. The role usually combines technical configuration with advisory work on workflow and adoption, and it frequently involves travel and working inside client organizations whose processes and politics vary considerably.Much of the value comes from having seen how other health systems solved the same problem, which is knowledge a client cannot easily build on its own.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Configure and implement Cerner solutions to client requirements
• Analyze clinical workflows and recommend system configuration
• Lead or support build, testing and validation activities
• Support upgrades, conversions and optimization projects
• Train client staff on the configured system
• Troubleshoot issues during implementation and after go live
• Document configuration decisions and hand over cleanly
• Work with client stakeholders across clinical and technical teams
• Support go live with on site coverage
• Advise on best practice from experience across other clients

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in health informatics, information systems, nursing or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 3+ years of Cerner implementation or support experience
• Deep knowledge of at least one Cerner solution area
• Understanding of clinical workflows and healthcare operations
• Strong client communication and expectation management
• Experience with build, testing and validation processes
• Ability to work independently at client sites
• Willingness to travel as engagements require
• Clear documentation practice
