Epic Analyst Job Description Template

The Epic analyst configures and supports one or more modules of the Epic electronic health record within a healthcare organization. The work covers build, testing, upgrades and the daily support of clinicians using the system, and it requires certification in the relevant module. Because the system is used continuously in patient care, change has to be planned and tested carefully rather than applied when convenient.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Configure and maintain build within assigned Epic modules
• Analyze clinical and operational requirements and translate them into build
• Test changes thoroughly before they reach the production environment
• Support upgrades including regression testing and issue resolution
• Troubleshoot problems reported by clinical and administrative users
• Build and maintain reports and workqueues
• Document build decisions and configuration changes
• Work with clinical informatics on workflow design
• Participate in change control and approval processes
• Support go live events and provide at the elbow assistance

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in health informatics, information systems or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 2+ years working with Epic in a healthcare organization
• Epic certification in at least one relevant module
• Understanding of clinical or revenue cycle workflows
• Careful change management in a live clinical environment
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Ability to communicate with clinical staff clearly
• Experience with testing and validation of system changes
• Understanding of PHI handling obligations

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in multiple modules
• Experience through an Epic implementation or upgrade
