Chief Financial Officer Job Description Template

The chief financial officer owns the financial reporting of both the management company and the funds, which are separate problems with separate audiences. The role covers NAV oversight, expense allocation, fee calculation, audit and tax, and it carries the responsibility of getting numbers right that investors and regulators rely on. Accuracy is the whole job, and the deadlines do not move.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Own financial reporting for the management company and the funds
• Oversee NAV production and review the administrator’s work
• Manage the calculation and allocation of management and performance fees
• Lead the annual audit and manage the relationship with the auditors
• Oversee fund and management company tax compliance and structuring
• Manage expense allocation policy between the funds and the manager
• Produce financial reporting for the board, partners and investors
• Oversee treasury, cash management and banking relationships
• Support investor onboarding, subscriptions and redemptions
• Maintain financial controls and the documentation supporting them

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 10+ years of finance experience in asset management or fund administration
• Deep knowledge of fund accounting, NAV production and fee calculation
• Experience leading an audit for an investment fund
• Understanding of partnership structures, allocations and tax reporting
• Command of expense allocation policy and its regulatory sensitivity
• Accuracy and control mindset with hard deadlines
• Ability to explain fund economics clearly to investors
• Experience managing a finance team and external service providers

• CPA
• Experience with offshore fund structures and multiple share classes
