The vice president of IT infrastructure owns the compute, network, storage and platform foundations everything else runs on. The role is accountable for reliability, capacity, cost and security of the underlying estate, and it usually carries responsibility for the long running modernisation programs that are difficult to fund because the benefit is largely the absence of future problems.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead infrastructure engineering and operations teams
• Own availability, capacity and performance of core infrastructure
• Manage the infrastructure budget including cloud and data center spend
• Lead modernisation and migration programs
• Own disaster recovery and business continuity capability
• Work with security on infrastructure hardening and compliance
• Manage vendor relationships and major contracts
• Establish operational practice including change and incident management
• Plan capacity against business growth
• Report infrastructure performance, risk and cost to leadership

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 12+ years in infrastructure including senior leadership
• Deep understanding of network, compute, storage and cloud platforms
• Experience owning availability at organizational scale
• Strong cost management including cloud spend
• Experience leading a major migration or modernisation
• Disaster recovery and continuity planning experience
• Vendor negotiation and contract management
• Ability to develop infrastructure leaders

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with hybrid cloud environments
• Regulatory compliance experience in infrastructure
