Growth Engineer Job Description Template

The growth engineer builds and ships experiments that move acquisition, activation and retention. The role sits between engineering and product analytics, and it is judged on measured outcomes rather than on features delivered. The work rewards people who are comfortable shipping quickly and equally comfortable concluding that their own experiment did not work.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build and ship experiments across signup, onboarding and activation
  • Implement analytics instrumentation and verify its accuracy
  • Design experiments with proper controls and sufficient power
  • Analyze results honestly and act on them
  • Optimize conversion funnels and reduce friction
  • Build internal tooling for experimentation and measurement
  • Work with marketing on landing pages and acquisition flows
  • Improve activation and time to value for new customers
  • Monitor the long term effect of changes rather than only the immediate lift
  • Document experiments and their outcomes, including failures
