Implementation Engineer Job Description Template

The implementation engineer takes a newly signed customer from contract to working deployment. The work covers configuration, data migration, integration and the training that makes adoption stick. The role matters commercially out of proportion to its visibility, since a poor implementation predicts churn regardless of how good the product is.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead technical implementation for new customers
• Configure the product to the customer’s requirements
• Plan and execute data migration from existing systems
• Build and test integrations with the customer’s other systems
• Train customer administrators and technical staff
• Document the implementation and hand over to support
• Troubleshoot issues arising during deployment
• Manage implementation timelines and stakeholder expectations
• Feed recurring implementation friction back to the product team
• Support go live and the period immediately after it

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 3+ years in implementation, professional services or technical delivery
• Strong technical skills including APIs, data formats and scripting
• Experience with data migration and its validation
• Excellent customer communication and expectation management
• Ability to manage several implementations concurrently
• Problem solving in environments you do not control
• Clear documentation and handover practice
• Patience with customers of varying technical ability
