The community manager is the day to day connection between a protocol and the people who use, hold and build on it. In web3 the community is unusually influential, often holding governance rights and always holding a public platform, so the role carries more weight than the title suggests. It demands availability, judgment under pressure and the ability to tell the community something they do not want to hear.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage community channels including Discord, forums and social platforms
- Answer questions and route technical issues to the right team
- Moderate discussion and enforce community guidelines consistently
- Communicate protocol updates, governance proposals and incidents
- Gather and summarize community feedback for the product team
- Identify and support active contributors and ambassadors
- Coordinate community events, calls and ambassador programs
- Monitor sentiment and flag emerging concerns early
- Defend against scams, impersonation and social engineering in community spaces
- Maintain documentation and frequently asked questions
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or a related field, or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Experience
- 2+ years managing an online community, ideally in web3
- Genuine understanding of the protocol and the wider ecosystem
- Excellent written communication and consistent tone
- Judgment about moderation and when to escalate
- Awareness of common scams and social engineering in community channels
- Availability appropriate to a global, always on community
- Composure during incidents and negative sentiment
- Ability to summarize community feedback usefully rather than anecdotally
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting governance processes
- Multilingual capability
