Web3 Designer Job Description Template

The web3 designer creates interfaces for products where every action is irreversible and costs money, and where the underlying concepts are unfamiliar to most people. The design problem is genuinely different from conventional product design: the interface has to convey risk honestly without becoming so alarming that nobody proceeds, and it has to make signatures and approvals comprehensible.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Design interfaces for on chain products and protocol interaction
• Create transaction flows that communicate cost, risk and irreversibility
• Design wallet connection and account states clearly
• Build and maintain the design system for the product
• Present complex on chain data in an understandable way
• Design for the failure states specific to blockchain interaction
• Conduct user research with both novice and experienced users
• Work closely with engineers on what is technically achievable
• Ensure accessibility across the product
• Iterate based on observed user behavior and support issues

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in design, human computer interaction or equivalent portfolio experience

Required Skills and Experience

• 3+ years of product design including web3 or fintech products
• Portfolio showing complex flows made comprehensible
• Understanding of wallets, transactions and approval risk
• Strong interaction design and design system skills
• Proficiency with Figma and modern design tooling
• Ability to communicate risk without inducing paralysis
• Experience designing for error and failure states
• Comfort working closely with engineers

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing for DeFi products
• Front end skills sufficient to prototype
