Scrum Master Job Description Template

We are hiring a Scrum Master to oversee and guide our scrum teams. In this role, you will ensure that development teams follow scrum framework values and agile practices, as well as providing mentorship, eliminating team impediments, and improving our processes and decision-making. To succeed in this position, you will need a firm grasp of agile practices, strong problem-solving and project management skills, and the interpersonal and leadership skills to effectively manage development teams. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Use agile methodology, principles, and practices to plan, manage, and deliver solutions
• Train, mentor, and support scrum teams
• Determine and manage tasks and action items
• Schedule and facilitate scrum meetings and events, including sprints, retrospective meetings, and daily standups
• Monitor progress and performance and help the team to make improvements
• Manage project scope and timeline and track project processes, deliverables, and financials
• Ensure deliverables are up to quality standards
• Plan and organize demos and product and/or system testing
• Manage issues and risks and remove impediments from the scrum team
• Serve as the primary point of contact for external communications with customers and stakeholders
• Prepare and present status reports to stakeholders

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 3+ years of experience on a scrum team
• Experience in a scrum master role
• Experience in a leadership or management role
• Experience successfully utilizing Agile techniques
• In-depth knowledge of scrum techniques and artifacts
• Knowledge of other Agile frameworks
• Knowledge of software development
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Excellent project management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Scrum master certification
