System Administrator Job Description Template

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Configure the networked computer system
• Maintain essential IT infrastructure, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, software, and hardware
• Set up accounts and workstations
• Perform server administration tasks, research event-log warnings and errors, and monitor resources
• Monitor system performance
• Respond to hardware issues as they arise
• Replace and upgrade defective or outdated components
• Monitor data center health
• Ensure data is stored securely and backed up regularly
• Build, test, and maintain new servers
• Maintain internal infrastructure requirements
• Assist IT teams with troubleshooting and provide technical support as needed
• Perform routine and scheduled audits of all systems, including backups
• Research and recommend new approaches to improve the networked computer system
• Document any processes that employees need to follow to successfully work with our computing system

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, information technology, or a related field
• Microsoft MCSE certification or similar

• Experience as a systems administrator, network administrator, or similar role
• Experience with operating systems, programming languages, and system performance monitoring tools
• Experience in project management
• Experience in application design and integration
• Experience in cloud computing
• Experience analyzing and repairing large-scale distributed systems
• Experience with databases, networks, and patch management
• Knowledge of Unix systems administration
• Knowledge of SQL and database operations
