Product Designer Job Description Template

We are seeking a Product Designer to work on various products we develop for our customers. In this role, you will define the product specifications, create models and drawings, and design fully-functional products. A successful candidate should have an eye for color and shape, as well as the ability to translate requirements into practical product features, with the goal of creating products that are easy to use and visually appealing. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Sketch drafts on paper and digitally
• Use 3D modeling software to design products and components
• Research and analyze materials and techniques, as well as market needs and consumer preferences
• Establish design requirements based on briefs from internal teams and external partners
• Modify and revise existing designs to meet changing customer preferences
• Produce and test prototypes
• Improve the design of existing products
• Gather feedback from product users and utilize it to refine future designs
• Identify new product development or improvement opportunities
• Present product ideas to leadership and cross-functional teams

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in product design, engineering, or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 2+ years of hands-on product design experience
• Portfolio of past client work that demonstrates a strong understanding of design objectives
• Experience in all phases of the design process, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing
• Experience in industrial design
• Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) tools
• Experience with design programs such as Illustrator or Sketch
• Experience working in an Agile environment
• Knowledge of 3D modeling software
• Strong creative problem solving skills
• Strong attention to detail with an intuitive eye for customer needs
