VP Product Design Job Description Template

We are seeking an VP of Product Design to lead our team of expert designers in creating exceptional digital experiences across all of our products and platforms. This role will oversee and manage a passionate team of designers and assist them in developing a thorough understanding of customer expectations and competitor activity. Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Apply fundamental user experience, design, and research principles to deliver products that meet our customers’ needs
• Lead, mentor, and scale a team of product designers
• Prioritize and deliver multiple design projects with an iterative and empirical approach
• Define processes, practices, and culture to create a user-centric department
• Develop and implement design vision, strategy, principles, and systems that will guide the development of our projects
• Hire and onboard new designers
• Troubleshoot and solve problems that occur during production
• Set up and oversee user testing of new products and features
• Monitor product performance post-launch and identify and implement improvements, enhancements, or upgrades as needed
• Manage cross-functional relationships to ensure all designs are consistent and market-leading
• Facilitate user research programs using new and relevant tools to provide data and insights for design optimization
• Transform ideas into creative, simple, and responsive designs under technology and time constraints
• Build a consistent and compelling user journey across our product portfolio

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, computer science, or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 15+ years of experience in product design
• 5+ years of experience leading a product design team in a diverse design environment
• Experience in all phases of product design, from conceptualization to implementation 
• Experience creating wireframes, flow charts, and site maps to define a product
• Experience developing new designs, products, and features
• Experience using quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions
• Experience collaborating with diverse and cross-functional teams
• Experience in design tools and methodologies
• Experience building and maintaining design systems, design principles, and streamlined workflows
• Experience hiring and developing design team members and leaders
• Experience establishing and growing a strategic design practice
• Knowledge of digital marketing and UI/UX design
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
• Strong time management and multitasking skills
