Security Engineer Job Description Template

Our company needs to hire an experienced Security Engineer to help us maintain a proper level of security in our corporate digital systems and network. The responsibilities of this role will include protecting system boundaries, securing highly sensitive data, and keeping our systems and networked devices hardened against attacks. The ideal candidate will possess a wide expertise in the security space and have a proven background in security or systems engineering. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Analyze security systems to identify areas for improvement
• Identify, define, and document system security requirements
• Develop and execute security measures to protect the network infrastructure and computer systems
• Monitor systems for irregular behavior 
• Track the performance of existing security measures
• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot security infrastructure, hardware, and software
• Report possible threats or issues
• Research security weaknesses to find cost-effective solutions to them
• Develop security standards and best practices for the organization
• Test software, firmware, and firewalls

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 2+ years of experience as a security engineer or in a related position
• Experience building, operating, and maintaining security systems
• Experience with firewalls, intrusion detection systems, antivirus software, authentication systems, content filtering, and log management
• Experience with network security and networking technologies
• Knowledge of database and operating system security
• Knowledge of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols
• Ability to perform basic coding in languages including HTML and CSS
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional certification such as CISSP, GSEC, CEH, or CISM
