Data Analyst Job Description Template

We are seeking a data analyst with a passion for consumer-centric marketing. The Data Analyst will contribute to the delivery of in-depth consumer analyses to influence audience-first marketing programs, reporting of retention and acquisition initiatives, and performance relative to audience and segment objectives. Using extensive first- and third-party data, they will collaborate with members of the audience insights team and data scientists to develop customer segmentation, customer lifetime value models, and audience profiles. This position is the technical component of a partnership with an audience analyst, who will refine their joint work into audience profiles and educational materials that will be leveraged by business and marketing strategy leaders throughout the organization. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create, manage, and distribute technical documentation for SQL queries, views, and procedures
  • Support efforts to develop audience insights, profiles, segments, and performance objectives by extracting and manipulating vast amounts of raw data from various data warehouses, data sets, and tools
  • Collaborate with analysts and data scientists to construct audience-based models, such as segmentation and customer lifetime value models
  • Work with marketing leaders to determine their strategic audience insight needs in order to direct audience analytics
  • Master database tables, data sources, and the translation of database terms and business definitions
  • Perform data analysis to identify and interpret its meaning, trends, and nuances, including impact analysis of new audience-based marketing programs
  • Assist with development of analytical processes and data utilization to produce positive business outcomes
  • Provide regular reports comparing audience segments to key objectives and performance metrics
  • Increase the company’s analytical capability and comfort level by providing non-analytical stakeholders with approachable analyses and audience-specific guidance
  • Communicate requirements to the data engineering team to enhance customer data warehouses and tools, analytical capabilities, and time to insights
  • Collaborate closely with our Data Science and Engineering teams to develop an industry-leading, growth-oriented data architecture and consumer database
  • Ensure that data utilized in the creation of data sets is accurately formed and reported through careful review and refinement prior to communication

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical field, such as computer science, business management, mathematics, or a related field of study, or equivalent work experience

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience as a data analyst creating complex SQL queries, joins, case statements, stored procedures, and optimizing queries
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing large data sets to generate actionable insights, preferably with consumer transactional, profile, and marketing data
  • Experience writing database queries and code while maintaining data quality, privacy, and security
  • Experience utilizing multi-TB cloud data warehouses (Big Query, Data Bricks, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift)
  • Fundamental understanding of CCPA compliance requirements for PII
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities coupled with a meticulous attention to detail
  • Expertise with customer segmentation and customer lifetime value analyses

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data warehouse expertise with AWS Athena, Data Bricks, Teradata, Big Query, and Snowflake
  • Knowledge of DOMO or Tableau
  • Experience creating data models or manipulating data using R or Python
