The success of our business is greatly and directly influenced by our machine learning team. The team includes research, data science, statistical modeling, and machine learning experts in addition to full-stack generalists. The team’s core objective is to automate decision-making and increase its accuracy by creating cutting-edge models. As Director of Machine Learning, you will help this team reach its full potential by giving machine learning managers and their direct reports strategic guidance.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise ML managers and assist them in developing and scaling their teams
- Lead initiatives to modernize ML architecture and streamline ML procedures
- Assume a leadership role in quantitative thought and developing sound technological solutions to complex issues
- Assist ML managers in creating the route maps and north stars for their respective regions
- Collaborate closely with product, data, and software engineering to develop their road plan and deliverables
- Identify ways to use ML for new goods and/or business areas in order to produce business value
- Work in a large team to deliver high-impact machine learning projects from the IT, quantitative trading, or other fast-paced areas
Education
- Master’s degree or higher in computer science or a related field
Required Skills and Experience
- 8+ years of research experience in science and machine learning, with at least 5 of those years spent as a practitioner
- 4+ years of people leadership and team building expertise
- Expertise in statistical modeling techniques like boosted trees, ensemble, survival, causal inference, neural networks, and other cutting-edge methods
- Proficiency in ML languages and packages (Python, R).
- Understanding of engineering designs and ML pipelines (AWS, Kafka, Spark, Kubernetes, EC2, Redshift)
- Ability to effectively lead cross-team and stakeholder negotiation and execution
