IT Business Analyst Job Description Template

The IT Business Analyst offers reporting and analytical assistance to various departments within the organization. The duties of this role include analysis, design, consulting support, and building a knowledge of our strategic objectives. The chosen applicant will help assess and document business requirements and turn those into solutions that bridge the gap between user requirements and system functionality. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work together with business and technical executives to transform business needs into technology solutions
  • Arrange, lead, record, and take part in client meetings and workshops to perform organized data collection, research, and analysis
  • Create and assess processes, checks, user needs, and functional requirements to find gaps between the present state and the desired future state
  • Document user stories, functional requirements, architectures for business data, application, and technology needs and rules
  • Model and design business processes, logical data models, standards, and guidelines
  • Keep track of issues and efforts to fix them while guaranteeing technical compatibility and end-user satisfaction
  • Enhance current business procedures, reports, and software applications through analysis, development, and proposal of changes that would increase system effectiveness
  • Ensure reporting compliance and conduct follow-ups with important people to guarantee data integrity

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of practical experience with business intelligence principles (e.g. reporting, querying software, OLAP, spreadsheets, dashboards, and data mining)
  • Experience working in an IT management position
  • Working knowledge of Tableau and/or Power BI
  • Knowledge of creating technical documentation and/or training
  • Working knowledge of helping project or technical teams in a BA capacity or other roles with similar responsibilities as those described above
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to set priorities and solve problems
