IT Project Manager Job Description Template

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hire and manage staff and train new team members
  • Define, deliver, and support strategic project plans
  • Analyze project needs and develop user stories
  • Utilize analysis and diagramming tools to represent business processes
  • Coordinate resources and timetables with user departments and data centers
  • Oversee and direct assigned resources to project work plans
  • Develop and execute test plans
  • Develop and maintain project documentation
  • Document defects, including steps to reproduce the anomaly
  • Forecast requirements, prepare annual budgets, and schedule expenditures
  • Prepare presentations that accurately and clearly convey project status to stakeholders
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery and backup procedures
  • Evaluate organization outcomes and recommend new information technology strategies, policies, and procedures
  • Establish and enforce organization standards

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in project management
  • Experience managing large, multi-stream projects
  • Experience with the development and implementation of IT projects
  • Experience communicating complex systems and technical topics to a non-technical audience
  • Experience gathering requirements and facilitating meetings
  • Experience managing development projects through the Agile methodology
  • Experience preparing and giving written and oral presentations
  • Experience overseeing and executing test plans
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of project management fundamentals
  • Knowledge of software development life cycle models
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP or similar project management certification 
  • Agile Scrum Master certification
  • Experience in both Waterfall and Agile project management
