Senior IT Project Manager Job Description Template

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver outcomes for medium- and large-scale cross-functional project initiatives while adhering to predetermined deadlines and quality standards
  • Consult with corporate executives to transform project ideas into finished products with specified goals, objectives, and scope
  • Create and implement reporting and communication systems to control issues, risks, and the prompt delivery of initiative results
  • Convert project goals and objectives into measurable, clear success metrics that stakeholders, the project team, and others can understand
  • Ensure project documentation is accurate, up to date, and properly archived
  • Explain project management best practices to peers and other employees as necessary
  • Help modify the corporate system development technique
  • Proactively find obstacles and fix problems, making backup plans and carrying them out as necessary while reducing risk 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

  • 6+ years of experience in project management, systems, or IT
  • Knowledge of System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) techniques and thorough understanding of the SDLC methodology
  • Excellent project management skills 
  • Thorough understanding of logical data management
  • Experience utilizing technological project management tools efficiently
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, as well as the capacity to balance the desire for detail-gathering with the necessity to address the issue at hand
  • Experience leading and managing IT teams
  • Experience with or knowledge of negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts in a clear and succinct manner, whether orally or in writing
  • Knowledge of various communication channels and ability to modify communication depending on the target audience and content
  • Expertise with computers (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to engage with business and IT partners on business requirements and timescales for major initiatives
  • Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast changing business and technological environment
  • Capacity for gaining consensus among peers and performing well under pressure
