Director of Architecture Job Description Template

Our growing company is seeking an experienced Director of Architecture to join our leadership team. This role will be directly responsible for our enterprise and solutions architecture and supporting team, and will serve as the primary liaison between the technical team, organization leadership, and providers. The ideal candidate will have experience serving as a subject matter expert and consultant on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple business areas.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Architect custom end-to-end infrastructure and platform engineered solutions
• Develop long-term IT strategies and plans in collaboration with leadership and key stakeholders
• Develop and communicate technical standards for product development throughout the organization
• Define and design business and information architecture
• Create documentation, including standard operating procedures and technical support documents
• Execute exploratory projects and proofs of concept to identify, evaluate, and adopt the most suitable model for the business context
• Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of scalable and extendable architecture and roadmaps for the digital enterprise
• Analyze and improve existing processes and workflows
• Identify, analyze, and recommend emerging technologies that will make an impact
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to define product requirements in alignment with business goals
• Advise management and team members on systems architecture best practices
• Provide mentoring, leadership, and technical direction to product development team members

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 10+ years of experience in a production environment
• 5+ years of experience in an IT leadership or senior enterprise architecture role
• Experience in enterprise web architecture and application development
• Expertise with architect design tools such as Axure and Balsamiq
• Expertise in information architecture practices such as user-centered design, information architecture, and lab based testing
• Experience conducting usability research
• Experience working across multiple platforms
• Knowledge of development technologies such as HTML, CSS, Java, and/or Objective-C
• Knowledge of UX trends and best practices
• Knowledge of popular development APIs
• Familiarity with open source development processes
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong communication and presentation skills
