Automation Engineer Job Description Template

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as an Automation Engineer. This role will create detailed project roadmaps for automation projects and automated systems to use in a production and manufacturing environment, in collaboration with departmental and corporate leadership. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, in addition to thorough knowledge of engineering and automation. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and implement automated systems and automation framework settings 
• Design and define system architecture for new or existing computer systems
• Develop automation scripts in Perl and Ruby
• Coordinate system development, including the design, modeling, security, integration, and testing
• Identify, develop, and implement new processes to improve productivity and efficiency in our manufacturing operations
• Identify and resolve issues using existing or potential solutions
• Create detailed road maps to guide automation projects from initial conception to final implementation
• Manage and document system configurations
• Support and upgrade existing automation technology 
• Create and maintain technical documentation
• Provide technical support and training as needed

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field

Required Skills and Experience

• 5+ years of experience with automation or control systems 
• Experience with the design and implementation of automated systems
• Experience with programming languages including Python and JavaScript
• Experience with custom scripting in languages such as C#, Python, R, Java, or SQL
• Experience with automation frameworks such as Selenium or Appium
• Experience with robotics, artificial intelligence, or machine learning
• Thorough knowledge of the principles and best practices of industrial automation, including process design, test procedures, and data collection validation
• Familiarity with cloud-based computing environments
• Strong communication and organization skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or a related technical field
• Experience working on automated manufacturing processes
