DevOps Specialist Job Description Template

Our team is looking to hire an expert in DevOps to serve as our new DevOps Specialist and help us build functional systems that will improve the customer experience. The ultimate goal of this role will be to execute and automate operational processes fast, accurately, and securely. They will achieve this by deploying product updates, identifying production issues, and implementing integrations. If you have a demonstrated background in software engineering and a strong familiarity with Ruby or Python, we would like to hear from you. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop software to integrate with internal back-end systems
• Develop scripts to automate visualization
• Develop and maintain mission-critical information extraction, analysis, and management systems
• Design procedures for system troubleshooting and maintenance
• Utilize coding languages or scripting methodologies to solve problems with custom workflows
• Utilize open source technologies and tools to accomplish specific use cases encountered within the project
• Translate loosely-defined requirements into solutions 
• Build tools to reduce error occurrences and improve the customer experience
• Perform root cause analysis to detect production errors
• Perform incremental testing actions on code, processes, and deployments to identify ways to streamline execution and minimize errors
• Investigate and resolve technical issues
• Provide level 2 technical support
• Deploy updates and fixes

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field 

Required Skills and Experience

• Experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar software engineering role
• Experience with Agile software development methodologies
• Experience with infrastructure scripting solutions like PowerShell and Python 
• Knowledge of Ruby or Python
• Knowledge of SQL and databases
• Knowledge of best practices and IT operations
• Knowledge of agile software development in Go, C++, Java, or JavaScript
• Knowledge of container orchestration services, especially Kubernetes
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong problem solving troubleshooting skills
