The connected devices engineer builds the connectivity layer for medical devices, covering wireless communication, cloud connectivity, remote monitoring and secure update mechanisms. Connectivity adds genuine clinical value and a substantial attack surface at the same time, so the role carries cybersecurity responsibility alongside the engineering, and regulators now expect that responsibility to be evidenced in the submission. Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and implement device connectivity across wireless and network protocols
• Build secure communication between devices and cloud services
• Implement over the air update mechanisms with integrity verification
• Design device provisioning, identity and certificate management
• Build telemetry and remote monitoring capabilities
• Implement cybersecurity controls appropriate to the device risk
• Support cybersecurity documentation for regulatory submission
• Test connectivity behavior under poor network conditions
• Investigate field connectivity issues
• Maintain a software bill of materials and monitor component vulnerabilities

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering or computer science

Required Skills and Experience

• 3+ years building connected embedded or medical devices
• Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity
• Strong understanding of device security including certificates and secure boot
• Experience implementing over the air updates safely
• Familiarity with cloud IoT platforms and protocols such as MQTT
• Understanding of FDA cybersecurity expectations for connected devices
• Ability to test under realistic network failure conditions
• Careful documentation for regulatory purposes

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with a medical device cybersecurity submission
• Knowledge of threat modeling methodologies
