The internet of medical things engineer builds networks of connected clinical devices and the platforms that manage them at scale. The problems are those of fleet management applied to regulated hardware: provisioning thousands of devices, updating them safely, monitoring their health and securing them within hospital networks that were not designed with them in mind.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and build platforms managing fleets of connected medical devices
• Implement device provisioning, identity and lifecycle management
• Build telemetry pipelines handling high volumes of device data
• Design and operate safe staged update mechanisms across a fleet
• Implement security controls appropriate to devices on hospital networks
• Build monitoring and alerting for device health and connectivity
• Support integration with clinical systems and data repositories
• Design for intermittent connectivity and offline operation
• Support regulatory documentation for the connected system
• Investigate and resolve fleet wide issues

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

• 4+ years building connected device platforms or IoT systems
• Experience with device management at fleet scale
• Strong cloud platform skills and data pipeline experience
• Understanding of embedded constraints and intermittent connectivity
• Security expertise covering device identity and network segmentation
• Familiarity with healthcare data handling requirements
• Experience with staged rollout and rollback strategies
• Good observability practice across a distributed fleet

Preferred Qualifications

• Medical device regulatory experience
• Knowledge of hospital network environments
